Photoshop projects such as this, i usually start by saving the original picture on a new layer so i can always go back and either take bits and pieces from the photo to use or simply to revert back if needed.
Now i use the tool liquify under filters to shape and form the face, you can use the smudge took to pull or push the skin, and pucker or bloat tool to expand or contract say in this case the nose was puckered and her eyes were bloated to give it the alienish big eyes.
Once im satisfied with the smudge work, i will exit and work on her eyes. darkening the eyes gives it that alien look or whitening it will give it that ghostly look, i love playing with both methods.
The rest is pretty much playing with channels to create color tones. The dress was selected using the new photoshop cs5 quick select tool. The entire outline of the body and face was also selected with the quick select tool and the selection was saved ( under select/save selection/ ).
For her skin effect, i simply searched in google for “leopard skin“, found the one i liked and masked it on her face and arm, changed the color by going to blending mode and selecting “difference“.
